FULL FOR WRITERS SPOTS : A workshop-based masterclass over two Saturdays with acclaimed writer/director Ben Young, suitable for writers, directors and actors with the principal focus of developing an idea for a feature length film. The goal is that by the completion of the workshop attendees will have the tools and understanding of how to begin writing or rewriting their feature length screenplay.

A step-by-step course where Ben takes you through his writing process—from initial idea to a workable draft. While the course focuses on feature films, the storytelling fundamentals covered are directly transferable to television and short film. In Week Two, students will have the opportunity to share their ideas for feedback. Actors and directors are invited to audit the course to deepen their understanding of story and take part in discussion.

Over the course of two days, Writers will have the opportunity to share their exercises with the class and receive feedback from Ben and other attendees. The information shared in the workshop is unavailable in this format anywhere else. It is a hybrid of techniques from dozens of books, workshops and most importantly Ben’s experience working on set and while writing for major international studios. Ben has cherry-picked the best of everything he has been exposed to over the years and will literally be sharing the process he uses to develop stories and approach directing.

• Who is Ben Young?
Ben Young is an award-winning writer and director whose work spans film and television across Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, Stan, and Foxtel. His 2016 feature debut was Hounds of Love which won numerous awards most notably at the Venice Film Festival. Ben’s second film Extinction premiered on Netflix in 2018 and featured Michael Pena and Lizzy Caplan. Ben directed a block of Netflix’s Clickbait in 2020 and the season finale of the second season of Amazon’s The Wilds . Ben directed the feature Devil’s Peak, starring Billy Bob Thornton and Robin Wright. He has since directed major international series including Clickbait, The Wilds, The Artful Dodger and Run where he also serves as executive producer. There are only 12 places to enrol as a Writer. These will complete and share the exercises and receive feedback and coaching during the workshop. The enrolment fee for this
invaluable professional development is only $270 + GST.

There are also limited places for Observers who can audit the workshop and gain significant knowledge through the 2 days process. Enrolment fee for Observers is $180 + GST. Course will run from 10am to 4:30pm both Saturdays at The Backlot, 21 Simpson St, West Perth.
