PAC LAB - Directing Actors

In 1992 producer/director Ross Hutchens and then actor & acting coach Annie Murtagh-Monks held a first of its kind workshop which brought together screen directors and actors wishing to collaborate and understand each other’s crafts better. The idea took off and Murtagh-Monks who founded Perth Actors Collective that same year expanded them to include screenwriters and she has co-ordinated these PAC Screen Workshops consistently ever since then.

A whole generation of WA filmmakers and actors have trained with PAC Screen Workshops including acclaimed actors Emma Booth, Claire Vanderboom, Andrew Supanz, Paul Tassone, Oliver Wenn, Daniel Monks, Alfredo Malabello, Belinda Bromilow and filmmakers Alison James, Pete Templeman, Stevie Cruz-Martin, Elissa Down, Ben Young, Michael Bond, Martin Wilson, Stefan Radanovich,  Dan Wood, Christopher Watson, Sarah Rossetti, Henry Inglis & Aaron McCann  and award winning cinematographers Denson Baker and Dave Le May.

Alumni of the workshops have shared their thoughts on their experience in our Testimonials page

Here's some additional feedback from the workshops:

"Annie Murtagh-Monks is absolutely one of the most talented and inspiring screen drama teachers in the country." Pete Templeman – director/ screenwriter “Not Suitable for Children’

"The course was inspiring and a lot of fun - the variety of people attracted to the course was an added bonus as we learned as much from each other as we did from the instructors!  Hope that makes sense." Caro

"I was absolutely blown away at the standard of films last night.... amazing! Isn't PAC a great thing!!! Its such a unique concept. Where else is there a reputable forum for that special mix of directors, writers and actors who are put together, given a time constraint and the structure of a theme to adhere to and then have their completed films screened and critiqued by working PROFESSIONALS. I mean where else can you do that? And just look at the calibre of the films?" Jacq

If acting is what feeds your soul, don’t put off doing a PAC course and say “ One day..” Instead say, “This is Day One” and then get on board. Start. Now. Irrespective of your age (I’m 58) and acting experience (20 years), you will take away valuable lessons that will move you closer to where you know, in your heart of hearts, that you need to be as a performer. Annie’s knowledge, experience and warm professionalism will teach you so much about the acting profession in a very short time, with tips and techniques that only come from real life hands-on experience. The reality? Put in the work! There are no short cuts. The bonus? PAC courses, especially Screen Acting, are a hell of a lot of fun, with a great group of like minded people. Please don't say ‘One day...' (again). Do the Nike thing instead.” Eddie Stowers
